Scott Reedy and Jonah Gadjovich each netted their first NHL goals, and Ryan Dzingel scored his first goal with the San Jose Sharks, leading them to a 3-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Sunday night.

Sharks goalie James Reimer made 39 saves, including a crucial 17 saves in the first period when Seattle outshot San Jose 18-4.

After losing the previous two matchups, San Jose earned its first win over the expansion Kraken.

“We found a way,” Sharks coach Bob Boughner said. “I don’t think it was our best performance by any means. But at this time of year, getting two points and finding a way is what matters most.”

Morgan Geekie scored for the Kraken, now losing seven straight games. Philipp Grubauer recorded 21 saves.

Reedy’s first NHL goal came at 7:15 of the second period, breaking a 1-1 tie. Reedy, who started the day with San Jose’s AHL affiliate, the Barracuda, was playing in his sixth career NHL game. He received the puck at the top of the circle after a faceoff and fired a shot past Grubauer.

“It’s an emotional moment for me, just thinking about everything that went into getting to this point,” Reedy said. “To do it in this building, in front of all the fans, and with my family watching back home—it’s actually my mom’s birthday, so this is a little birthday present for her. A special moment.”

Gadjovich added his first NHL goal on a power play with 5:23 left in the third period, extending the Sharks’ lead to 3-1.

Dzingel’s goal with 2:41 remaining in the first period was his first since being claimed off waivers last week from Toronto. He had scored four goals in 29 games for Arizona before being traded to the Maple Leafs.

Geekie tied the game 9 seconds later with a backhand shot, his fourth goal of the season, snapping a 20-game scoreless streak dating back to December 11.

“It definitely weighs on you,” Geekie said. “I think I’ve been working on growing my game and becoming a solid 200-foot player. If I can keep playing well at both ends of the rink, the chances will keep coming.”

San Jose went 0-for-3 on power plays in the third period.

“We did what we had to do in the first period; that’s the kind of start you need when facing a team on a back-to-back,” Kraken coach Dave Hakstol said. “We did everything right except come out of the first period with a lead. You’re not going to dominate for three periods like we did in the first, but even with the six minutes of penalty killing in the third, we didn’t generate as much as we wanted. But we were still pushing.”

FERRARO UNDERGOES SURGERY

Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro underwent surgery Sunday to repair a fracture in his lower left fibula, the team announced. The typical recovery time for this injury is six to eight weeks.

CHALLENGE

Seattle’s Calle Jarnkrok appeared to score at 4:04 of the second period, but the goal was overturned after officials ruled Marcus Johansson interfered with Reimer.
