The Seattle Kraken has secured Eeli Tolvanen’s services for the next two years, signing him to a contract extension worth $3.475 million annually. This deal follows Tolvanen’s impressive performance during the 2023-24 season, during which he set career highs in several statistical categories.

Tolvanen, a 25-year-old left wing from Vihti, Finland, has grown significantly since joining the Kraken. Originally drafted 30th overall by the Nashville Predators in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Tolvanen was claimed off waivers by Seattle in December 2022. Since then, he has become an integral part of the Kraken’s roster, contributing 32 goals and 68 points in 129 games over the past two and a half seasons.

The Finnish forward’s journey to the NHL has been marked by success at various levels. Before making his mark in North America, Tolvanen played for Jokerit in the KHL, earning an All-Star game appearance. He also showcased his skills internationally, representing Finland in prestigious tournaments such as the IIHF World Junior Championships, the IIHF World Championship, and the Winter Olympic Games.

Tolvanen’s playing style is characterized by his elusive puck handling and impressive shooting ability. Scouts have praised his quick release, powerful wrist shot, and accurate one-timer, particularly on the power play. These skills have translated well to the NHL level, where Tolvanen has established himself as a reliable scoring threat.

The contract extension reflects the Kraken’s confidence in Tolvanen’s continued development and his importance to the team’s future. General Manager Ron Francis expressed enthusiasm about retaining Tolvanen, highlighting his significant contributions and potential for further growth.

With this signing, the Kraken now focuses on other essential personnel decisions, including negotiations with star forward Matty Beniers. The team has approximately $7.1 million in cap space remaining, which they hope will be sufficient to secure Beniers’ services for the upcoming seasons.

As the Kraken continues to build its roster for future success, Tolvanen’s extension represents a significant puzzle piece. His scoring ability and efficient play are expected to remain crucial elements of Seattle’s offensive strategy in the coming years.
