The Seattle Kraken are set to kick off their fourth NHL season with an exciting home opener at Climate Pledge Arena on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. For the first time in franchise history, the Kraken will begin their campaign on home ice, hosting the St. Louis Blues in a matinee game scheduled for 1:30 PM PT. This early afternoon start time offers fans a unique opportunity to take a break from work or school to catch the season’s first puck drop.

The October 8 matchup is expected to be part of an ESPN triple-header, likely featuring the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers, raising their championship banner in a game against the Boston Bruins. The newly established Utah Hockey Club will also make its NHL debut that evening, hosting the Chicago Blackhawks.

Looking back at their history against the Blues, the Kraken face a challenging opponent for their home opener. Seattle struggled against St. Louis in the previous season, going 0-1-2, and the Blues hold a dominant 7-2-0 all-time series advantage.

In July and August 2024, the Kraken made several significant moves and announcements. On July 2, the team revealed their complete 2024-25 regular season schedule, which includes 82 games and features some notable events. The season will consist of a two-week pause for the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament in February, showcasing top NHL talent from the United States, Canada, Finland, and Sweden.

One of the most significant developments came on August 20, 2024, when the Kraken re-signed their star center Matty Beniers to a long-term contract. Beniers, the franchise’s first-ever draft pick and winner of the Calder Memorial Trophy as NHL rookie of the year in the 2022-23 season solidified his place as a cornerstone of the team’s future.

The Kraken also made history on July 5, 2024, by hiring Jessica Campbell as the NHL’s first female assistant coach. Campbell joined new head coach Dan Bylsma’s staff, marking a significant step forward for gender equality in professional hockey.

Critical dates for the upcoming 2024-25 Seattle Kraken season include:

  • September 12, 2024: Rookie Camp opens to the public at Kraken Community Iceplex
  • September 19, 2024: Main Training Camp begins
  • September 22, 2024: First preseason game against the Calgary Flames at Climate Pledge Arena

  • February 10-21, 2025: NHL 4 Nations Face-Off tournament break
  • April 15, 2025: Regular season finale against the Los Angeles Kings

The Kraken has also announced an exciting 2024-25 season giveaway night lineup, including several bobblehead nights featuring players like Vince Dunn, Jamie Oleksiak, Philipp Grubauer, and Joey Daccord. These promotional events will surely draw fans to Climate Pledge Arena throughout the season.

As the 2024-25 season approaches, excitement is building in Seattle. With a new coaching staff, a mix of established stars and emerging talents, and a full schedule of home games at the state-of-the-art Climate Pledge Arena, the Kraken are poised for what could be their most thrilling season yet.
