Aleksander Barkov scored a late second-period equalizer and delivered in the shootout. At the same time, Sam Reinhart added the decisive shootout goal as the Florida Panthers edged the Seattle Kraken 2-1 on Tuesday night.
Reinhart assisted on Barkov’s tying goal, his ninth of the season, which came with just over a minute left in the second period.
Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky made 17 saves during regulation and overtime, then denied shootout attempts by Eeli Tolvanen and Oliver Bjorkstrand to secure the win.
Chandler Stephenson put the Kraken (14-14-2) ahead with his third goal of the season late in the first period. Jared McCann notched his 100th assist with Seattle on the play.
Kraken goaltender Joey Daccord stood tall with 32 saves, but it wasn’t enough to hold off Florida (18-9-2).
Takeaways
Panthers: Florida’s offensive dominance in recent games, scoring 31 goals in their previous six outings, took a backseat in this low-scoring battle. This marked their first game with just one regulation goal since Nov. 25.
Kraken: Defenseman Brandon Montour faced his former team for the first time, logging over 22 minutes on the ice but managing just one shot on goal. Montour played a key role in the Panthers’ Stanley Cup run last season before joining Seattle as a free agent.
Key Moment
In the shootout, Barkov weaved around to Joey Daccord’s left side and neatly tucked the puck into the net. Reinhart followed with a similar move, slipping the puck past Daccord’s outstretched pad to seal the win.
Key Stat
The Kraken blocked 18 additional shots to supplement Daccord’s 32 saves, but the Panthers still found ways to capitalize.
