Ondrej Palat scored the game-winning goal just 37 seconds after the Seattle Kraken tied it, propelling the New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 win on Monday night and ending their four-game losing streak.

Dawson Mercer had a standout performance with a goal and an assist, while Paul Cotter also found the net for the Devils. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom made 21 saves to help secure the much-needed win.

Adam Larsson and Shane Wright scored for Seattle, with Philipp Grubauer recording 26 saves. The Kraken have hit a rough patch, dropping their third consecutive game (0-2-1) and eight of their last ten (2-7-1).

Wright briefly tied the game at 2-2 with a power-play goal early in the third period. However, Palat quickly responded to reclaim New Jersey’s lead, which they maintained until the final buzzer.

Mercer kicked off the scoring for the Devils at 7:56 of the first period, capitalizing on a rebound near the right post for his 10th goal of the season. Larsson evened the score late in the first period, but Cotter’s 10th goal just before the second intermission restored New Jersey’s lead.

Kraken: Struggling to find consistency, Seattle has lost eight of its last 10 games. Grubauer has started the last five games in place of injured Joey Daccord, posting a 2-2-1 record during that stretch.

Devils: After a challenging start to their six-game road trip, New Jersey managed to avoid its first five-game skid since February 2022, thanks to a clutch performance in Seattle.

Markstrom kept New Jersey alive in the first period with two critical saves—first denying Oliver Bjorkstrand’s 3-on-2 opportunity and then blocking Andre Burakovsky’s breakaway chance with a minute remaining.

Key Stat

The Devils remain unbeaten in regulation (20-0-1) this season when leading after two periods.
