Brandon Montour made NHL history on Wednesday night, scoring just four seconds into overtime—the fastest goal ever recorded in an NHL extra period—to lift the Seattle Kraken to a thrilling 5-4 comeback victory over the Montreal Canadiens.

Montour, who finished the game with two goals and two assists, capitalized immediately after Chandler Stephenson won the opening faceoff of overtime. The puck landed in Montour’s path as he crossed center ice, and he wasted no time racing in on Montreal goaltender Jakub Dobes before firing a precise shot into the top-right corner of the net.

His goal tied the record for the quickest goal to begin any period in NHL history. Three players had previously accomplished the feat in regulation: Claude Provost (Montreal, 1957), Denis Savard (Chicago, 1986), and James van Riemsdyk (Toronto, 2014), each scoring four seconds into a period.

Seattle staged an impressive comeback, erasing a two-goal deficit in the third period to force overtime. Montour’s standout performance helped propel the Kraken to the dramatic win.
