Jared McCann played the hero Saturday night, scoring with just 3.8 seconds left in overtime to lift the Seattle Kraken to a 2-1 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights.

With time winding down, Matty Beniers — who had opened the scoring in the second period — fired a shot from the left circle that bounced off goaltender Adin Hill’s pads. In front of the crease, McCann pounced on the rebound and buried it for his second goal of the season and 400th career point.

Goaltender Joey Daccord was outstanding once again, making 26 saves — including four in overtime — and has now stopped 61 shots through his first two games. The win gave Seattle its first 2-0-0 start in franchise history.

Pavel Dorofeyev scored Vegas’s league-leading fifth goal of the season, while Hill finished with 20 saves.

Beniers’ power-play goal at 7:58 of the second period gave Seattle a 1-0 lead, as he tucked in a backhand pass from Jordan Eberle inside the right post. Dorofeyev evened the score early in the third on the power play — his fourth man-advantage goal this season — finishing a setup from Mark Stone.

The Kraken’s win was their fifth in 15 all-time meetings against the Golden Knights.
