Tyler Seguin scored in the final seconds of the first period, and Casey DeSmith made 30 saves as the Dallas Stars edged the Seattle Kraken 2-1 on Sunday night.

Wyatt Johnston added a power-play goal — his league-leading seventh — for Dallas, which improved to 11-1-1 all-time against Seattle and remained unbeaten in regulation at home versus the Kraken (6-0-1).

Jaden Schwartz ended his six-game scoring drought with Seattle’s lone goal early in the first period, redirecting a shot past DeSmith just 3:15 into the game. However, the Stars answered quickly when Johnston converted on the man advantage less than 90 seconds later, continuing Dallas’ torrid power-play stretch — they’ve scored with the extra skater in nine of their last 10 games.

Seguin’s decisive goal came with 32 seconds left in the opening frame, when he slipped a backhander under Matt Murray’s pad at the near post. The tally stood as the game-winner after two scoreless periods.

DeSmith, starting in net for the second game of a back-to-back, was sharp throughout, making nine saves while the Stars were shorthanded. On the other side, Seattle’s third-string goalie Matt Murray stopped 22 shots in his second appearance of the season.

Miro Heiskanen tallied two assists, extending his streak of multipoint games to three and bringing his total to eight helpers over that span.

The Stars’ home penalty kill, which has struggled this season, was perfect at 3-for-3, while Seattle’s offense failed to capitalize on limited chances. The Kraken remain without starter Joey Daccord, who continues to recover from a lower-body injury sustained in last week’s 6-1 loss to San Jose.
