Nathan MacKinnon scored twice, including the tying goal early in the third period and a late empty-netter, while adding an assist as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Seattle Kraken 5–3 on Tuesday night.
MacKinnon’s two-goal night pushed his NHL-leading total to 28 goals and extended his point streak to six games. Colorado earned its third straight win and has now secured at least one point in 24 of its last 25 games, continuing to lead the league in the standings.
Artturi Lehkonen, Samuel Girard, and Brock Nelson also found the net for Colorado, while Mackenzie Blackwood turned aside 34 shots.
Seattle’s goals came from Chandler Stephenson, Shane Wright, and Jordan Eberle, but the Kraken fell for the ninth time in their last 10 games. Philipp Grubauer finished with 33 saves.
Despite their recent struggles, the Kraken pushed the league’s top team and surged ahead during a strong second period, scoring three times to carry a 3–2 lead into the third.
MacKinnon erased that advantage with a one-timer from the right circle early in the final frame. Seattle nearly regained the lead moments later after earning a penalty shot when Josh Manson was penalized for covering the puck in the crease, but Eberle rang his attempt off the right post.
Less than a minute after that miss, Nelson buried the eventual game-winner for Colorado. MacKinnon sealed the result with an empty-net goal in the closing seconds.
Lehkonen opened the scoring midway through the first period with a deflection in front.
