Wyatt Johnston netted his 30th and 31st goals of the season as the Dallas Stars defeated the Seattle Kraken 4-1 on Wednesday night.
Matt Duchene contributed a goal and an assist, and Sam Steel also found the net as Dallas extended its winning streak to seven games — its longest run since late March to early April of last season.
Johnston’s second goal of the night, his league-leading 19th on the power play, gave the Stars a 4-0 advantage and set a new single-season franchise record for power-play goals. The 22-year-old now has three straight 30-goal seasons and five multi-goal performances this year. He nearly had a hat trick but rang two shots off the post in the third period.
Goaltender Casey DeSmith made 18 saves for Dallas. Entering the game, DeSmith ranked sixth in the NHL with a 2.37 goals-against average.
Seattle’s lone goal came from defenseman Ryker Evans in the third period. Joey Daccord stopped 28 shots in net for the Kraken.
Johnston opened the scoring late in the first period, tipping in a shot at the crease with 1:19 remaining. He struck again midway through the second, when Miro Heiskanen’s shot from the slot deflected off Evans’s stick and then off Johnston’s leg into the net.
Duchene began Dallas’ three-goal second period with his seventh goal in as many games. Steel added another shortly after, jamming the puck through Daccord’s pads. Seattle challenged for goaltender interference, but the goal stood after review.
Thomas Harley recorded two assists for the Stars, who completed a three-game season sweep of Seattle for the third straight year.
The Kraken suffered a setback when defenseman Ryan Lindgren exited after just two shifts following a heavy collision with Dallas forward Colin Blackwell.
