Joey Daccord delivered a standout performance with 35 saves as the Seattle Kraken edged the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 on Monday night, snapping Carolina’s impressive 12-game point streak.
Ben Meyers scored his sixth goal of the season — a new career high — while Kaapo Kakko also found the net for Seattle. Defenseman Adam Larsson contributed two assists in the victory.
Carolina entered the matchup riding a hot stretch, winning five straight and seven of its previous eight games. The loss marked the Metropolitan Division leaders’ first defeat since a 4-3 overtime setback in Washington on Jan. 31, and their first regulation loss since a 3-0 defeat in St. Louis on Jan. 13.
Seattle avenged a narrow 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes earlier this season and climbed into third place in the Pacific Division, moving one point ahead of Edmonton while holding a game in hand.
Meyers — who recently signed a two-year contract extension with the Kraken — doubled Seattle’s lead midway through the second period by slipping a backhand shot past Frederik Andersen.
Nikolaj Ehlers answered for Carolina late in the period, cutting the deficit to 2-1 with a wrist shot that beat Daccord with 1:30 remaining.
The Hurricanes pushed hard late, especially after Seattle’s Eeli Tolvanen was called for holding with 1:29 left. Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour pulled Andersen to create a 6-on-4 advantage, but Daccord and the Kraken defense held strong to secure the win.
Kakko had opened the scoring earlier in the second period with a wrist shot that slipped under Andersen’s right shoulder. Andersen finished the game with 13 saves.
