Yanni Gourde and Jaden Schwartz recorded a goal and an assist as the Seattle Kraken ended their three-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.

Gourde scored the game-winner at 10:48 of the third period with a sharp wrist shot, breaking a 2-2 tie. Brandon Tanev and Eeli Tolvanen also found the back of the net for Seattle, while Matty Beniers chipped in two assists. Joey Daccord made 15 saves as the Kraken improved to 7-1-1 when scoring first this season.

Eric Robinson and Martin Necas scored for Carolina, with Necas adding an assist to bring his team-leading point total to 39. Pyotr Kochetkov, in his first start after missing four games due to a concussion, stopped 24 shots. However, the Hurricanes registered a season-low 16 shots and dropped their third straight game.

Takeaways

Kraken: Seattle controlled the game’s tempo, dominating puck possession and outshooting Carolina 28-16. A particularly strong second period saw the Kraken outshoot the Hurricanes 14-2, marking just the second time Seattle has held an opponent to fewer than 20 shots this season.

Hurricanes: Despite Kochetkov returning to the lineup, the Hurricanes’ goaltending issues persisted. After allowing Schwartz’s goal just 19 seconds into the game, Kochetkov stabilized but couldn’t keep out Gourde’s third-period game-winner. Carolina remains without top netminder Frederik Andersen, sidelined with a knee injury since late October.

Key Moment

Carolina appeared to take the lead at 10:02 in the third period when Jack Drury scored, but the goal was overturned due to goaltender interference after a successful Kraken coach’s challenge. Just 50 seconds later, Gourde capitalized, giving Seattle the decisive 3-2 lead.
