Mason Marchment made an instant impact in his Seattle Kraken debut, scoring the go-ahead goal as Seattle topped the Anaheim Ducks 3-1 on Thursday night — marking the first time in franchise history the Kraken have won their season opener.

Joey Daccord was stellar between the pipes, stopping 35 shots, including 16 in a busy first period. Vince Dunn and Jared McCann also scored for Seattle, which had gone 0-3-1 in its previous four season openers — one of those losses coming in overtime against Anaheim in 2022.

Marchment, acquired from Dallas in an offseason trade, put Seattle ahead 2-1 at 3:50 of the second period. Returning from ankle surgery, Brandon Montour forced a turnover at center ice and carried the puck deep into the Ducks’ zone before finding Marchment in the slot. Marchment buried the pass past goaltender Lukas Dostal, who finished with 28 saves.

Dunn opened the scoring just 2:21 into the game with a wrist shot from above the left circle. Anaheim rookie Beckett Sennecke, making his NHL debut, tied it 1-1 at 4:11, tucking in Mason McTavish’s setup behind Daccord.

The Ducks nearly regained the lead late in the first, but a goal by Olen Zellweger was overturned after officials ruled Daccord had the puck secured in his glove.

McCann added insurance at 4:25 of the third period with his fourth goal in five career season openers, sealing the win for Seattle.

Behind the bench, Lane Lambert won in his first game as Kraken head coach, while Joel Quenneville dropped his debut with Anaheim.
