Mikael Backlund scored twice, including a late empty-netter, and the Calgary Flames erupted for three goals in the third period to pull away from the Seattle Kraken for a 4–2 win on Thursday night.

Nazem Kadri and Matt Coronato also scored for Calgary, while Rasmus Andersson recorded three assists. Goaltender Dustin Wolf turned aside 21 shots as the Flames improved to 6-1-1 in their last eight home games.

Seattle’s goals came from Chandler Stephenson and Kaapo Kakko, but the Kraken continued to struggle, dropping seven of their last eight games. Joey Daccord was busy in the net, stopping 42 shots in defeat.

After Kakko gave Seattle a 2–1 edge late in the second period with a power-play deflection, Calgary flipped the game in the final frame. Kadri tied it at 2–2 midway through the third with a power-play one-timer.

Coronato then put the Flames ahead for good with 8:41 remaining, taking a neutral-zone feed from Andersson, skating in alone and beating Daccord high glove-side. Jonathan Huberdeau picked up an assist on the play for his 800th career NHL point.

Backlund sealed the outcome by scoring into the empty net with eight seconds left.

Earlier, Stephenson opened the scoring for Seattle in the second period with a slick forehand-to-backhand move. Backlund responded later in the period when Andersson’s pass deflected off his skate and into the net, tying the game and giving Andersson his 200th career assist.

Flames coach Ryan Huska said after the game that defenseman Jake Bean will undergo surgery and is sidelined indefinitely.
