Jordan Staal set up two third-period goals and Jaccob Slavin returned with a milestone assist as the Carolina Hurricanes edged the Seattle Kraken 3-2 on Saturday night.
William Carrier scored the go-ahead goal with 6:10 remaining, deflecting Slavin’s shot for what became the game-winner. Jordan Martinook and Logan Stankoven also found the net as Carolina extended its winning streak to four games.
Staal assisted on both third-period tallies, while Slavin’s helper was his first of the season and the 300th point of his NHL career. Playing in just his sixth game this season due to multiple injuries, Slavin helped the Hurricanes improve to 5-0-1 when he’s in the lineup.
Berkly Catton and Matty Beniers scored for Seattle, which suffered its first regulation loss in 11 games (8-1-2). Joey Daccord made 31 saves.
Carolina goaltender Brandon Bussi earned his 16th win in 19 starts, stopping 10 shots. One of those chances came after a misplay led to Catton’s goal at 5:56 of the third, briefly giving Seattle a 2-1 edge.
The Hurricanes responded quickly. Martinook tied it at 10:37 of the third on a pass from behind the net by Staal, and Carrier capped the comeback moments later.
Stankoven opened the scoring early in the first period, extending his goal streak to four games. Beniers tied it late in the opening frame with a slick move at the blue line before beating Bussi.
Despite the tight score, Seattle managed just 12 shots on goal — a season low — including only eight through two periods.
