Vince Dunn and Jared McCann each posted a goal and an assist as the Seattle Kraken halted a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the New York Islanders on Wednesday night.
Matty Beniers and Kaapo Kakko also found the net for Seattle. Philipp Grubauer finished with 24 saves and even picked up a secondary assist on McCann’s late empty-netter that put the game away.
New York struck first yet again against Seattle. Anthony Duclair scored on the power play just 2:38 into the game, continuing a strong stretch for the winger and marking the seventh time in the Kraken’s last eight games that they surrendered the opening goal. The Islanders closed a seven-game road trip with a 3-3-1 mark.
Seattle responded on a lengthy 5-on-3 advantage in a penalty-filled first period. Beniers redirected Dunn’s shot with 9:20 left in the opening frame to tie it 1-1. The two teams combined for six penalties in the first period alone.
Dunn then put Seattle ahead for good midway through the second, snapping a wrist shot home for his seventh goal of the season with 6:23 remaining. Ryan Winterton and Ben Meyers assisted on the go-ahead tally.
McCann later added the insurance marker into an empty net, extending his steady production—he’s recorded a point in 17 of the 25 games he has played this season.
Ilya Sorokin made 21 saves for the Islanders, falling to 16-12-2 after winning four of his previous five starts.
