Matty Beniers and Berkly Catton found the net just 18 seconds apart early in the third period, sparking the Seattle Kraken to a 4-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Sunday night.
Joey Daccord turned aside 27 shots for Seattle, while Ryker Evans and Jordan Eberle also scored. The win marked Seattle’s third in its last 10 games. Beniers reached a personal milestone by skating in his 300th NHL contest.
Dougie Hamilton and Jack Hughes provided the offense for New Jersey. Jacob Markstrom finished with 15 saves as the Devils wrapped up a four-game Pacific Division road trip with a 3-1-0 record.
Hamilton opened the scoring midway through the first period on the power play, snapping a clean shot past Daccord for his sixth goal of the season. The tally continued an intense stretch for the defenseman, who has eight points over his last nine games.
Seattle answered in the second when Evans’ shot deflected off Johnathan Kovacevic’s stick and slipped through Markstrom’s pads, tying the game at 1-1.
The Kraken seized control early in the third. Beniers broke the tie at 7:04, and Catton followed moments later at 7:22 to give Seattle a two-goal cushion.
Hughes briefly pulled New Jersey back within one with a power-play goal at 8:14, aided by a fortunate bounce off Adam Larsson’s leg. But Eberle sealed the outcome with an empty-net goal, his 18th of the season, with 1:12 remaining.
