Nico Hischier scored twice, finishing the night with an overtime breakaway goal, as the New Jersey Devils edged the Seattle Kraken 3-2 on Wednesday night.

Hischier sealed the win 3:42 into overtime after taking a pass from Jack Hughes, racing in alone on Philipp Grubauer and slipping a backhand shot past the goalie while fending off Seattle’s Matty Beniers. The Devils’ captain now leads New Jersey with 15 goals.

Cody Glass also scored for the Devils, while Jacob Markstrom turned aside 15 shots. New Jersey followed up Monday’s 5-2 win in Minnesota — which snapped a four-game skid — with another tight victory.

Seattle got goals from Jared McCann and defenseman Adam Larsson, and Grubauer finished with 23 saves. The Kraken are nearing the end of a road trip that began with a loss in Carolina and included a win at Madison Square Garden.

McCann evened the score at 5:06 of the second period on a power-play rebound, coming just 1:33 after Hischier had given New Jersey the lead with his own man-advantage goal from the right circle.

Glass opened the scoring less than a minute into the game, winning a faceoff and converting on the rebound of Dougie Hamilton’s shot. Larsson answered later in the first period, stepping into the slot and firing a shot past Markstrom to tie it 1-1.
