Matty Beniers and Brandon Montour scored less than a minute apart late in the first period, and the Seattle Kraken held on to defeat the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 on Monday night.
Beniers tied the game at 18:35 of the first with his 19th goal of the season, driving hard to the crease to bury a rebound into an open net. Just 54 seconds later, Montour gave Seattle the lead with a glove-side snipe past Darcy Kuemper, setting a new career-high with 17 goals.
Joey Daccord was stellar on the net, stopping 28 shots to preserve the win for the Kraken.
Quinton Byfield opened the scoring just 1:48 into the game for Los Angeles, deflecting a Kyle Burroughs point shot while tied up with Shane Wright in front of the net and finishing with a one-handed effort. It was Byfield’s 20th goal of the season, moving him into sole possession of fourth on the team’s scoring list.
The loss ended the Kings’ four-game winning streak and dropped their home record to 29-5-4. Los Angeles had clinched a playoff berth just two nights earlier.
